The Bayahibe Rose

Pereskia quisqueyana (scientific name) is a unique species in the world and endangered, discovered in 1977 by French botanist Alain Liogier. It is a singular rose found only in the Bayahíbe area, in the southeast of the country.
The Bayahíbe Rose, despite belonging to the cactus family, has leaves and flowers with a pleasant aroma. It was declared the national flower of the Dominican Republic in 2011, representing the country's natural wealth and biodiversity.
It is present in the Dominican national coat of arms, where its value and appreciation by the population is represented.
